Two yogakārakas
The Sun (9th, bhāgya) — a full benefic — and Mars (5th, trikoṇa). Jupiter, lord of the 1st and 4th, takes kendrādhipati-doṣa in a kendra other than the Lagna.
Māraka — 7th & 11th ⚠
Mercury (7th) and Venus (11th) are the author's mārakādhipatis. The textbook māraka houses are the 2nd & 7th — teach both.
Bādhaka — 7th
Dual signs take the 7th as bādhaka; Mercury is bādhakādhipati. Mercury and Venus are the functional malefics.
The 8th lord is a friend
The Moon owns the 8th (āyus) but is friendly to the Lagna — so it increases longevity.
Teaching note
The 11th as māraka is the author's own departure; the bādhaka (7th, Mercury) is the standard dual-sign rule.

Places ruled by Dhaṉusu
Within Bhārat
Tirupati · Travancore · Hampi · Chittoor · Vellore · Senji · Mysore · Srirangapatnam and fort-towns · the Thungabhadra banks · the southern coasts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala
Around the world
South Sri Lanka · central Europe · Arabia · Afghanistan · war-zones · armouries and weapon-training grounds (āyudha-sālai)
Classical view · two authorities
Phaladīpikā
A long neck, an ill-shaped face, big ears and a big nose; strives in his tasks; dear to the king; clean teeth; charitable; destroys his enemies; won over only by loving speech; strong.
Satyāchārya
Long neck, teeth and nose; kapha-vāta body; tall male build; fierce in action; valorous; loses wealth to the government (theft, fire); learned in a fine profession and the śāstras; respected by many; travels to many lands and earns; mediator in dharma matters; measured attachment to the wife.
Classical view · Jātaka Alaṅkāram
Fears his own siblings; of great fame and glory; skilled in women's pleasure; conquers those who oppose him; of much learning; wealthy from a young age — but in middle age suffers difficulties and weaknesses.

From experience · the arrow to the target
Straight to the mark
As an arrow set to the bow flies straight, he carries a task to completion at speed. Thinks well, decides — and once decided, does not change.
Pure word
Once he gives his word he will not draw back, accepting whatever hardship or loss to fulfil it.
Magnanimous & learned
Keeps away from petty matters; never surrenders his honour; deep learning, even without schooling. Many seek his counsel — a town-elder whose word is obeyed.
Conscience is his master
Speaks openly; admits a real fault but never a false blame; questions injustice even in government — and fights for the workers and the downtrodden, from the soul, not for show.
From experience · family, money, freedom
A cool marriage
Loves his family, but the wife does not quite suit him — less warmth until middle age, more in later life. (The lore: Jupiter dislikes Mercury, the 7th lord, born of the Moon and Tārā.)
Careful with money
Very careful — especially with public money; strict, even harsh, with his own children.
More daughters
Mostly gets more daughters, on whom his affection falls — yet thrifty with the children and quick to see small faults.
Bound only by love
“He cannot be bound by wealth or authority — only by love, affection and good friendship.” Fame and position seek him out; he fulfils any duty without error.
The Nine Planets
in Dhaṉusu
Each graha alone in the Lagna — what it makes of the Sagittarius native
Guru · Sūrya · Candra · Kuja · Budha · Śukra · Śani · Rāhu · Ketu
Jupiter (Guru)
The big man at home.
- A big-man bearing of its own; others connect with awe-mixed respect, and his word is obeyed by many.
- A little lazy — gets others to do what is needed and to bear his expenses; even a gift is arranged in his name. Very thrifty.
- Mostly more daughters, with more affection for them; gives what they ask — yet thrifty toward the children.
- Public service, divine works, political ties, headmanship and the panchayat seek him; modest and reserved in women-matters, keeping life honourable.
Sun (Sūrya)
An elevated state — a truly big man.
- An excellent, brisk administrator who works fast “as if a wheel were fixed to his leg”; others can't keep his pace.
- Where others err he quietly sets it right rather than pointing it out — so they hold him in awe-mixed respect.
- Good earning strength, not miserly; dislikes having others spend for him; keen in public service; hard to deceive.
- Always cautious and well-planned; devoted to family, elders and great souls; desire present, but no wandering.
Moon (Candra)
The 8th lord as a friend — longevity rises.
- As 8th (āyus) lord but a friend of the Lagna, the Moon increases longevity.
- Waxing Moon: mind-firmness and skill rise — fearless, quick to act, respected, generous, attached to mother, elders and relatives.
- Waning Moon: less special — careless, impatient and thrifty; lets others bear the expenses; thinks many times over even needful family spending.
- Slippery in women-matters — coaxing the wife until a task is done, then slipping away.
Mars (Kuja)
A distinguished, special state.
- Fame and influence; a little quick to anger, but magnanimous; speed and discernment; an excellent administrator, keen on sports.
- Political ties, public service and divine works — with no self-interest or profit-seeking.
- Honour-conscious; a generous spender; respects siblings and elders; fearless, speaking his mind openly and unworried by the trouble it brings.
- Mostly reaches high positions — administrators, big businessmen, real-estate, factory-owners; a dignified life.
Mercury (Budha)
Slippery — but strong in the profession.
- Win a strong professional position; take up work of little physical labour, getting it done through others while supervising all.
- Not easily deceived, very cautious; good taste in arts, mathematics and jyotiṣa — “a good merchant,” calculating even small matters.
- The wife dominates the home, but they keep other-women ties; skilled in the art of love.
- Clever, sweet talkers who rarely let others speak — “nothing is impossible for us”; mostly make life comfortable.
Venus (Śukra)
The malefic lord subjugates the Lagna.
- Venus in the Lagna makes them act as it wills: pompous living and big spending that sinks the sign's glory.
- Hesitant to borrow, yet become debtors through random spending; unable to keep their word; hidden enemies.
- Ties with women, possibly a second household; for women they will spend anything — youth's pleasures turning into old age's sufferings.
- Natural taste in the arts, but misdirected; income comes, yet shortage follows and later life turns sorrowful.
Saturn (Śani)
Not special — it spoils the glory of Sagittarius.
- Breeds laziness, carelessness and lack of self-confidence; discernment of good and bad reduces.
- Acts with eyes closed, without forethought — mismanages and loses in the profession; low company and crooked money-seeking that ends in failure.
- Very bad in women-matters: as the 3rd (bhoga) lord, enjoyment-thoughts run high even with a beautiful wife.
- Health declines from excess — spinal trouble (spondylitis) and piles (mūla-vyādhi) attack severely.
Rahu (Rāhu)
The bow-Rāhu — a special arrangement.
- Jyotiṣa marks Rāhu in Sagittarius as special: Kōthaṇḍa Rāhu — it acts excellently in its daśā/bhukti.
- Good subject-knowledge and skill; the power to complete tasks fast and precisely; darśan and ties with great souls.
- Political and public-service ties with no profit-seeking; dharma-minded and helpful; ties with jñānis and mahāns.
- Even with desire, conduct that guards their honour; family-attached. “He is called the arrow shot from the bow.”
Ketu (Ketu)
Immense intellect, a spiritual bent.
- Not equal to Rāhu's state, yet immense intellect and jñāna — a camphor-intellect that grasps anything at once.
- Ties with jñānis, mahāns, monasteries and divine works; take the front rank of their own accord; fulfil any responsibility precisely.
- Keen in bhakti, discourse and upanyāsa, dhyāna and yoga; fond of homam and yajña; ties with māntrik and tāntrik practitioners.
- Only in women-matters do they act somewhat badly; good to the good, very bad to those who oppose them.
Conjunctions
in Dhaṉusu
The Sun — the bhāgya-lord and full benefic — joined with each planet
Dharma-Karmādhipati · Kōthaṇḍa Rāhu · the two yogakārakas together
Sun + Moon · Sun + Mars
Sun + Moon
Special. The Moon drops its 8th-lord blemish — good administrators of earning strength; political and public-service involvement without profit-seeking; dharma-minded, with ties to jñānis and mahāns; even with desire, they guard their honour.
Sun + Mars — a wondrous arrangement
The two yogakārakas together raise them very high: big businessmen, trade-chiefs, holders of authority and political position. Public and dharma works without accounting; front-line for the people's grievances — fighting even the government, opposing bribery; the means to build wells, orphanages, ashrams and temples.
Sun + Mercury · Sun + Jupiter
Sun + Mercury — Dharma-Karmādhipati yoga
The 9th (dharma) and 10th (karma) lords together keep life high and noble. A camphor-intellect — accounting expert plus jyotiṣa, vedānta and tattva; a comfortable life troubles do not approach; born to enjoy and to help others.
Sun + Jupiter
Without doubt special — the Lagna-lord and the bhāgya-lord make very big men: high status, authority and political position; professional rise; keen in public service, monastery and temple-service; taking no profit; honoured by the public, never doing a dishonourable act.
Sun + Venus · Sun + Saturn
Sun + Venus
Not special. Venus is a functional enemy of this Lagna and of the Sun. Combust, its marriage-qualities reduce; not combust, it makes them eye others' wives, act small-mindedly and pompously — reaping trouble and disease from random spending.
Sun + Saturn
Not satisfying. The father–son relation is poor; good qualities reduce; laziness and delay spoil chances; low company and labour-less money-seeking; endless spending and shortage; very bad in women-matters.
Sun + Rāhu · Sun + Ketu
Sun + Rāhu — wondrous here
Generally Sun+Rāhu spoils the Sun — but in Sagittarius the Sun keeps its glory, because this is Kōthaṇḍa Rāhu. Good jñāna and interest in vedānta, tattva, bhakti, dhyāna, yoga and kuṇḍalinī; keen in public service, ashram and monastery.
Sun + Ketu
Not special. Ketu reduces the Sun's glory, but they have immense intellect — cautious, escaping any tangle by cunning; thrifty, getting expenses done by others; clever, tall-talking and proud.
The multi-planet combines
The crowning combine
Sun + Mars + Jupiter — wondrous achievers, a very big yoga: the leadership-seat, guiding others rightly, with wealth, status and high position. Sun+Mars+Moon and Sun+Mars+Mercury also act well, giving elevations.
The favourable combines
Sun+Mercury+Jupiter gives good results; Sun+Guru+Rāhu makes achievers (with Ketu, fulfilment on the bhakti-path); Jupiter+Moon+Mars gives distinction; Moon+Mars is good — firm-minded, devout, generous.
The mixed combines
Sun+Mars+Venus forms well but brings tāra-doṣa (a second marriage possible); Sun+Guru+Saturn and Sun+Mars+Rāhu are moderate; Moon+Jupiter is moderate — magnanimous but of changing mind.
The weak combines
Sun+Mars+Saturn struggles; Moon+Mercury and Moon+Venus breed big spending; Moon+Saturn (worse with Ketu) brings low company and crooked ways; Mercury/Venus/Saturn with the nodes — none satisfying.
Putting it together
“He cannot be bound by wealth or authority — only by love, affection and good friendship.”
Sagittarius in one line: Jupiter's fire of dharma — no enemy, no fall — loosed like an arrow by two yogakārakas, the Sun and Mars.
Its defining yogas: Sun+Mars (two trine-lords), Sun+Mercury (Dharma-Karmādhipati) and Kōthaṇḍa Rāhu. Confirm with the whole chart.
